Try the “two-take rule”: record your intro once for energy, then once for clarity. No endless loop. Take one usually has the natural spark: pace, personality, little smile in the voice. Take two usually fixes the rambling, missed title, or awkward transition. Then either choose the better one or stitch the strongest opening line from one to the cleanest setup from the other.
A tiny checklist before recording:
1. Say who the episode is for.
2. Name the promise or payoff.
3. Mention the guest/topic without over-explaining.
4. Land the handoff into the episode.
This can keep intros from becoming 20-minute editing puddles. It also gives newer hosts permission to sound prepared without sanding off all personality.
What’s your personal limit before you stop re-recording and move on?
