On paper, it sounds tidy: photos, videos, articles, and audio could carry a record of how they were created or edited. That might help people spot synthetic media, verify original sources, and reduce confusion during breaking news. But the messy part is adoption. If only major platforms and camera makers support it, bad actors can simply avoid the system. If it becomes too aggressive, everyday creators may feel burdened or mislabeled.
I’m also curious whether people will actually check provenance badges, or if they’ll become like cookie banners: everywhere, mostly ignored.
What would make digital provenance genuinely useful to you: platform enforcement, simple creator tools, visible labels, independent verification, or something else entirely?
