A trend I keep seeing is “ambient AI”: tools that sit quietly in the background, summarizing meetings, sorting inboxes, suggesting replies, tagging photos, adjusting smart-home settings, or nudging workflows before anyone explicitly asks. It’s different from opening an app and giving a command; it feels more like technology becoming a soft layer around daily life.
That could be genuinely useful, especially for accessibility, busy teams, and people drowning in routine admin. But it also raises chunky questions: Who gets to decide what is “relevant”? How much context should a system collect? And when does convenience become a fog where we stop noticing what’s being automated?
What’s one background automation you’d welcome, and one you’d absolutely want to keep manual?
